Instagram bulk import

Import all your saved Instagram recipes at once.

You've been saving recipes on Instagram for years. Bonchef reads Instagram's export and turns every saved Reel and post into a real recipe: ingredients, steps, searchable. Hundreds at a time, not one by one.

Get Bonchef for iPhone

Free to download for iPhone and iPad. Bulk import is a paid feature, and nothing is charged until you've seen what we found.

How it works

Three steps, one evening.

  1. 1

    Ask Instagram for your saves

Request a copy of your Saved posts in Instagram's Accounts Center. It takes a minute, and Instagram sends you a zip when it's ready.

  2. 2

    Open the zip in Bonchef

Bonchef reads the file on your phone, finds every saved post and collection, and shows you what it found. You choose what goes in.

  3. 3

    Get a cookbook back

Every post becomes a full recipe with ingredients and steps, sorted into collections. Bonchef keeps working in the background and lets you know when it's done.

In Instagram's export tool you pick: Export to device, only Saved, date range All time, format JSON. Not sure where those are? Follow the step by step export guide.

What you get back

  • Real recipes, not screenshots

Ingredients and steps, pulled from every post. Scale the portions, tick off ingredients, cook step by step.

  • Your collections, kept

Keep the folders you made on Instagram, or let Bonchef sort everything by protein, time of day or mood.

  • Search everything

Find that lemon pasta by ingredient instead of scrolling back to March.

  • Non-recipes skipped

The gym reel and the meme get filtered out. They don't clutter your cookbook and they don't count.

Why one batch

Sharing one post at a time doesn't clear a backlog.

Most recipe apps import from Instagram through the share sheet, one post at a time. That's fine for tonight's dinner. It's hopeless for the four hundred posts you've saved since 2021.

Bonchef reads Instagram's own export instead, so the whole backlog clears in one sitting. Once you're caught up, the share sheet is there for every new find.

Instagram bulk import FAQ

Does this work with Reels?

Yes. Saved Reels, posts and carousels all show up in Instagram's export. Bonchef reads the caption of each one and turns it into a recipe.

How many recipes can I import at once?

Up to 1,200 posts in one run. If you have more, deselect a few collections in the preview and start with those.

What does it cost?

The app is free to download. Bulk import is a paid feature, and you see the price in the app after the preview, before anything is imported. Posts that turn out not to be recipes are skipped and never count.

Do you need my Instagram password?

No. You never log in to Instagram through Bonchef. You download your own export from Instagram and open it in the app. Bonchef reads the file on your phone and only sends the posts you select.

What happens if a creator deletes a post later?

Your recipe stays. After the import, the recipes live in Bonchef with their own ingredients and steps. Each one keeps a link to the original post, but it doesn't depend on it.

Which phones does it work on?

Bonchef is available for iPhone and iPad. The export from Instagram works on any phone, but you need the Bonchef app to import it.

What about TikTok and YouTube?

Bulk import is for Instagram's export only. For TikTok, YouTube and websites, share a video or link to Bonchef and it becomes a recipe, one at a time.

Instagram gave me an HTML file. Can I use that?

Not yet. Request the export again and pick JSON as the format. It's the same saved posts, in a form the app can read.

Your saves, finally cooked.

Export your saved posts from Instagram, open the zip in Bonchef, and cook from a real cookbook instead of a scroll.

Available on iPhone and iPad. Bulk import is paid, and you see the price before anything is imported.
